Passengers Protest 150% Parking Fee Hike at Murtala Muhammed Airport

Passengers at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) have expressed outrage over a sharp increase in parking tariffs introduced by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.

The new rates, effective April 1, 2026, represent hikes of more than 150%, depending on vehicle type. Sedans now pay ₦3,500 for the first hour, SUVs ₦4,000, and buses as high as ₦20,000.

Subsequent hours for sedans and SUVs are billed at ₦2,500, while overnight parking has surged to ₦50,000, up from ₦6,000. A penalty of ₦25,000 is also imposed for lost or damaged tickets.

Passengers say the increases are unjustifiable, adding to the burden of rising airfares. “The same passengers already faced with high travel fares now have to pay more than double to park their vehicles. This is frustrating,” one traveller, Mr. Aderemi, told The PUNCH.

Social media users also voiced anger. One X user wrote: “I couldn’t believe my eyes that I paid ₦3,500 just to go in and come out in under 10 minutes.” Another said overnight parking now makes Uber cheaper than leaving a car at the airport.

Critics described the hike as “sheer greed” and “criminality,” arguing that passengers are charged the moment they enter the car park, even for a few minutes.

Efforts to get a response from Bi-Courtney’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Olayinka-Adewuyi, were unsuccessful as of press time.

The controversy has sparked wider debate about pricing decisions in Nigeria’s aviation sector, with many calling for better consultation and regulation to protect consumers.
