Retreating, Reconnecting and Rejuvenating: Unforgettable Moments in Kano, by Nafisat Bello
At the Image Merchant Promotion Limited (IMPR), it has become an annual ritual for all members of staff to converge on the PRNigeria Centre in Kano for weeklong activities that include a retreat and the Arewa Star Awards.
But the 2025 event came with a difference because of the new facilities that have been provided by the compassionate management of the organisation.
On returning to Abuja after an eventful week, the energy around the office has been unmistakable. Few weeks ago, our team stepped away from daily routines and into the brand-new hostel facilities thoughtfully built for our comfort. What followed was more than just a change of scenery; it was a refreshing, meaningful experience that brought us closer together and left us recharged for the work ahead.
First Impressions: A Thoughtfully Designed Home Away From Home
From the moment we arrived, the new hostel made a strong impression. The space is modern, clean, and clearly designed with comfort and functionality in mind. Bright interiors, well-planned communal areas, and cozy, well-equipped rooms made settling in effortless. Unlike traditional corporate accommodations, the hostel felt warm and welcoming, less like a place to stay for the night and more like a shared home that encouraged connection and relaxation.
The attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed. From practical amenities to inviting common spaces, everything contributed to an environment that allowed us to unwind almost immediately.
Bonding Beyond the Boardroom
One of the retreat’s greatest strengths was how naturally it encouraged team bonding. The schedule struck an excellent balance between organised activities and unstructured downtime. Team-building sessions sparked laughter, creativity, and collaboration, helping us see one another beyond job titles.
Outside of planned activities, the hostel’s communal spaces became hubs of conversation and connection. Meals shared around large tables, casual chats in common areas, and relaxed evening gatherings gave everyone the chance to exchange story ideas, and perspectives. These moments helped strengthen relationships that were usually far apart in previous retreats where we were scattered around in different hotels because of lack of space.
Time to Recharge, Reflect, and Refocus
Beyond the social benefits, the retreat offered something equally valuable: space to pause. Removed from the usual pressures of deadlines and meetings, we had the opportunity to reflect, think strategically, and reconnect with our collective goals. The calm, supportive environment made it easier to reset mentally and emotionally.
It served as a powerful reminder that when employees are given time to recharge and feel genuinely valued, motivation and focus naturally follow. The retreat reinforced the idea that well-being and productivity go hand in hand.
Looking Ahead with Gratitude
This retreat was more than a brief getaway, it was an investment in our people, our culture, and our future. A heartfelt thank you goes to entire IMPR management board for prioritising team well-being and for creating such an impressive new space to make experiences like this possible.
We returned feeling refreshed, more connected, and inspired to move forward together. The memories made at the new PRNigeria hostel located in Kano will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on how we collaborate, communicate, and grow as a team.
