DisCos’ Revenue Soars to N1.58trn in 8 Months – NERC
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says the total revenue “collected” by power distribution companies (DisCos) hit N1.58 trillion in the first eight months of 2025.
Index analysis of the monthly ‘DisCos commercial performance fact sheets’ showed a revenue increase of 50.48 percent year-on-year from the N1.05 trillion recorded in the corresponding eight-month period of 2024.
According to the report, the DisCos collectively generated N559.32 billion in revenue in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025 and N573.53 billion in the second quarter (Q2).
In July and August 2025, the NERC said the energy firms raked in N193.96 billion and N191.11 billion, respectively.
By comparison, in 2024, the DisCos recorded earnings of about N292.71 billion in Q1, N433.01 billion in Q2, N162.14 billion in July, and N168.7 billion in August.
Speaking on the N191.11 billion recorded in August 2025, the commission said the DisCos realised the amount from a total customer billing of N238.67 billion during the month under review.
The agency noted that the August figure represents a 1.47 percent decline compared to the N193.96 billion billed in July.
Despite the dip in billing, the commission reported that collection efficiency improved slightly to 80.07 percent in August, up from 79.77 percent in the previous month.
The report also noted that the average allowed tariff across all DisCos stood at N116.25/kWh, while the actual average collection was N92.75/kWh for August.
