Buhari Appoints Deputy Governor For CBN — CBN Deputy Governor, Aishah Ahmad

The Senate has received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) in the person of Mrs Aishah Ahmad.

Upon confirmation, Mrs. Ahmad will replace a former Deputy Governor, Mrs Sarah Alade who retired early this year, a statement by Presidential Media Adviser, Femi Adesina said.
In accordance with the provisions of Section 8(1) (2) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2007, President Buhari urged the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, to consider the expeditious confirmation of Mrs Ahmad, who would then resume work immediately.

Mrs Ahmad, from Niger State, is a graduate of accounting from the University of Abuja. She also has a Master of Business Administration MBA in finance from the University of Lagos. Before her appointment, Ahmad was in charge of the Consumer Banking Division at Diamond Bank Plc. She is married to retired Brigadier General Abdallah Ahmad and they have two sons.

Buhari also wrote the Senate seeking the confirmation of appointment of members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBN to replace four members whose tenure expires at the end of this year. The nominees are: Professor Adeola Festus Adenikinju; Dr Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi; Dr Robert Chikwendu Asogwa and Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu.

Adesina said when cleared, the new members of the MPC are to resume duties by January.

Professor Adeola Festus Adenikinju is the Principal Investigator of the University of Ibadan Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law that received a grant of $980, 000 in 2011 from the MacArthur Foundation to establish a multi-disciplinary global centre of excellence.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Ibadan and is currently a Professor of Economics in the same department.

He is a Research Professor at the Centre for Econometrics and Allied Research, as well as Senior Research Fellow, Macroeconomic Study Group, University of Ibadan.

Adeola has consulted for organizations including the European Union, United Nations, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company, NLNG, The African Economic Research Consortium, OECD, UNIDO, ECOWAS, UNECA, the World Bank, and the National Data Bank.

He was one of the Consultants that prepared the First Perspective Plan for Nigeria. He is also involved in the United Nations Project Link that makes economic projection for the Nigerian Economy. Adeola was a Visiting Scholar to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1996 and 2005.

Dr. Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi is a lecturer of Economics at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. He studied economics at Ahmadu Bello University, and Lancaster University, United Kingdom. He also took a year off to study for a Masters Degree in International Business at the prestigious Lancaster University Management School, where he obtained PhD in Economics.

He has taught Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Economics, Monetary Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics for Economics and Principles of Economics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has taught economics at Lancaster University, ABU and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina.

He has attended local and international conferences and workshops, and his published articles in academic journals, such as the West African Journal of Monetary and Economic Integration, Jackson State University Journal, The Researcher, UIP Journal of Financial Economics, Abuja Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Economics and Allied Fields, and the Nigerian Journal of Contemporary Public Policy Issues, etc.

His area of research interest is applied econometrics with applications to monetary economics, international economics and macroeconomics.

Dr Asheikh A. Maidugu is a graduate of economic from the University of Maiduguri. He is currently a Director at the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

In 1997, he obtained a master’s degree in money, trade and finance from the University of Maiduguri and 2004 he got a PhD in development economics and international development from the Usumanu Danfodio University, Sokoto. He taught economics at the University of Maiduguri until in 2007, when he joined the Debt Management Office, Abuja as a Chief Operations Officer. He later joined the FIRS in 2010.
