The Kogi State Government has reassured its citizens of total commitment towards provision of potable water across the state.
The State’s Commissioner for Water Resources, AbdulSalami Momodu Ozigi, made the reassurance while commissioning newly constructed and rehabilitated potable water supply facilities in Nagazi-Eba, being one of the Second Phase Borehole Water Supply Scheme undertaking by the State Government.
He noted that Governor Yahya Bello has prioritized the water supply projects across the State to quickly address challenges of poor access to potable water the citizens have been facing for years. He assured that with massive construction of boreholes and rehabilitation of dead water supply facilities, cases of water-borne diseases would drastically reduce in the State.
The Commissioner, who described water as one of the basic amenities that everyone needs for survival, added that the government has rehabilitated water boards across Central Senatorial District as Adavi, Okehi, Okene and Ogori/Magongo local government areas in the zone have benefited from the scheme.
He however expressed dissatisfaction over poor work and mishandling of the water project at Ogori axis by the contractor, promising to bring back the contractor to the site to complete the job according to specifications.
Barrister Ozigi, who is optimistic that the 2017 budget which was recently passed by the State House of Assembly would ensure rapid development of all nooks and crannies of the State, assured that other senatorial zones and local governments will soon benefit from the scheme.
Expressing appreciation over the projects, the Administrator of Ogori/Magongo Local Government Council, Honorable Moses Akande, said the rural dwellers have suffered untold hardship arising from drinking polluted waters therefore, regular maintenance of the water facilities is a responsibility of the Council and the people.
