Sokoto State commissioner for budget and economic planning Bala Kokani says many Nigerians are unwilling to pay taxes and revenues, stressing that improved internal revenue generation by the three tiers of government is key to taking Nigeria out of recession.

He stated this at a three-day Workshop on ‘2016 Sokoto State Budget Performance Review and Public Hearing on 2017 Budget Workshop’, organized by a USAID-assisted Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy and Development(LEAD) Project being implemented in Sokoto and Bauchi States.

The Commissioner who was represented by Director of International Corporations, Shehu Dogon-Daji, also lamented the nonchalant attitude of some MDAs towards revenue collection.

He observed that sometimes the revenues collected were siphoned.

The commissioner urged redress of the prevailing situation towards improving the economy.

He said efforts would be sustained towards ensuring the optimal performance of Sokoto state 2017 budget.
