The FCT Administration has concluded arrangements to install new
modern traffic lights in 98 intersections of the Federal Capital City,
Abuja.

The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, dropped this hint while
receiving the Zone 7 Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety
Commission (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal Kingsley Agomoh who paid
him a working visit in his office at Area 11, Garki I District, Abuja.

The Minister revealed that most of the old model traffic lights would be replaced by the new modern ones to improve vehicular movement in the city centre and reduce waste of man-hour especially at peak hours.

Malam Bello, who disclosed that the FCT Administration has already completed technical survey for the job, noted that the Chinese authorities are donating the new traffic lights.

According to him, the installation work would commence within the next two or three months time across the Federal Capital City.

He however decried the activities of hoodlums vandalizing public facilities like street light underground cables, telecommunication
ducts as well as traffic light equipment.

Malam Bello therefore directed the Security Agencies to help reverse the trend as hoodlums even vandalize traffic lights control panel both on the ground and those hanged up.

His words: “The traffic lights control panels on ground are usually vandalized and even the new Chinese design hanged up to make it difficult to tamper with are also being attempted.”

The Minister advised residents to also show closer interest in securing public facilities by complimenting the efforts of the security agents in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking earlier, the Zone 7 Commanding Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Assistant Corps Marshal Kingsley Agomoh appreciated the immense support the zonal command (FCT / Niger) is receiving from the Minister and the FCT Administration.

He thanked the Minister for the special attention given to the new Nyanya Motor Park; saying that it would go a long way in reducing road crashes along that route.

Assistant Corps Marshal Agomoh assured the Minister of the readiness of the Commission to continue to partner with the FCT Administration in the area of city transportation management.

The FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Babatope Ajakaiye also joined the Minister in receiving the delegation of the Federal Road Safety Commission.
