While many Nigerians who attend schools abroad are not willing to return to the country to work, Miss Doofan Margaret Gboko who just bagged a Master of Science degree in Global Marketing from the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Roehampton, London, has stated otherwise.

The young Doofan who coincidentally turned 24 on her Convocation day on 20 September 2023, said she would rather return to the country and contribute to its development.

After attending the Nigerian Air Force (NA) School for Primary and Secondary education, she attended the Cross River State University of Technology, where she obtained Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting before traveling to United Kingdom for her graduate studies.

The daughter of a Nigerian Air Force Officer, Squadron Leader Tsekaa Matthias Gboko, Doofan said Nigeria is a country with great potential for growth and development.

“Home is home and I am proud to return home and contribute my quota to its progress and development.

“During my studies here in the UK, I realised that Nigeria has so much potential that with conducive and enabling environment, businesses can flourish.

“Unlike other Nigerian youths who want to stay outside Nigeria for greener pastures, sincerely I prefer home.

“Though I can work here to acquire relevant experience, qualifications and certifications, going back to Nigeria to serve the country is my priority ambition,” she stated.

She urged Nigerian youths to acquire skills and education in foreign countries for the benefit of the Nigeria.

She called on the Nigerian government to create job opportunities for youths with relevant qualifications and professional expertise.

Since going to the UK in 2022, Doofan has worked in various fields for the purpose of gaining useful experience.

She has said she wants to professionally earn relevant, global commercial acumen through continouos application of economic and marketing theories and case studies. She focuses on identifying target markets, strategic market communication on cultural, financial, political, and international economics. She is involved in strategic marketing, global strategic
marketing and digital marketing.

Her alma mater, the University of Roehampton, London was recognised (jointly) as the best UK modern university for research in the REF 2021, for which 218 staff were submitted in 12 areas and were top graded. The University’s 77% of the research submitted was ranked as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent.’
