The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Wogu, has affirmed that the Federal Government has resolved to pursue a paradigm shift from adversarial position of industrial relations practice to a more flexible win-win relationship in tandem with the basic tenet of the transformation agenda of the present administration.
Wogu made this remarks at the official commissioning ceremony of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions [NASU] House, in Abuja.
“Government has considered the current industrial relations principles and practice hinged on adversarial relationship that does not promote the envisaged peace and harmony. Accordingly, government has resolved to pursue a paradigm shift from this adversarial position to a more flexible win-win relationship in tandem with the basic tenet of the transformation agenda of Mr. President”, The Minister affirmed
“Arrangements are in top gear to convene a high-level stakeholder’s forum to deliberate on this new focus together”, Wogu emphasized
He added that the social cost of incessant strikes and lock-outs is increasingly becoming unbearable to an emerging economy such as ours.
The Minister commended the exemplary leadership strides of NASU for the judicious use of union dues for the promotion of the labour management administration.
“We are witnesses to accountability, transparency and good governance in the management of union affairs. We have advocated judicious use of union dues and regular publishing of audited account of the union. The commissioning of this national headquarters of the union is an eloquent testimony to the judicious use of union funds for the promotion of labour management administration”, the Minister applauded.
In her opening remarks, the National President of NASU, Comrade (Mrs) Ladi Iliya revealed that the National Secretariat Building was built from proceeds from annual N200 National Secretariat levy, without support from donors or bank loan.
She assured members of the union that the secretariat will at all time be the hub of struggle for their welfare in the work place.
