Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has said the state still ranked among the poorest in the country.
The governor who made the disclosure at the unveiling of the Development Agenda for Western States (DAWN) in Lagos said that the situation was a fallout of the kind of leadership given by past administration in the state.
He said: “People ask me , why is it that Oyo State, in spite of its long history and political relevance in the country, still has one of the lowest per capita income in the country? And the answer I give is simply PDP which was the administration in the past eight years rather than further the state‘s course of development, retarded it due to their purposeless, bad leadership.
Ajimobi assured that the state would soon bounce back to economic and political reckoning, as the present administration had been taking steps to improve the lot of the people.
Speaking on the development agenda for the South-West, the governor expressed optimism that it would promote the development of the region and restore it to the glorious days of the late Obafemi Awolowo. He said that the South-West states had drifted from the path of progressive development over the years and blamed it on military interruptions in politics and bad governance.
Ajimobi urged leaders in the region to work closely with one another and do their best to interprete the vision of the agenda for the improvement of the lives of the people.
