730,289 Passengers Travelled By Rail in Q2 2018 – NBS
The rail transportation data for Q2 2018 reflected that a total of 730,289 passengers travelled via the rail system in Q2 2018 as against 748,345 passengers recorded in Q1 2018 and 596,792 in Q2 2017 respectively, representing 22.37% growth YoY and -2.41% growth QoQ. Similarly, a total of 85,816 tons of volume of goods/cargo travelled via the rail system in Q2 2018 as against 79,750 recorded in Q1 2018 and 18,212 in Q2 2017 respectively, representing 371.21% growth YoY and 7.61% growth QoQ.

Revenue generated from passengers in Q2 2018 was put at N435,965,777 as against N413,057,019 in Q1 2018. Similarly, revenue generated from goods/cargo in Q2 2018 was put at N159,079,963 as against N151,279,394 in Q1 2018.

Compared to the statistics in the last two years, the rail transportation data for Q1 2016 to Q2 2017 reflected that a total of 596,792 passengers traveled via the rail system in Q2 2017 as against 768,093 passenger recorded in Q1 2017 and 742,826 in Q2 2016 respectively. The Lagos Mass Transit Train service from Iddo/Apapa to Ijoko recorded the highest number with 427,760 passengers while the Minna to Kaduna Train Service recorded the least with 573 passengers.

Similarly, a total of 1,866 trips embarked on via the rail system in Q2 2017 as against 1,755 trips recorded in Q1 2017 and 1,588 in Q2 2016 respectively. The Lagos Mass Transit Train service from Iddo/Apapa to Ijoko recorded the highest number with 1,002 trips while the Port Harcourt to Kano Train Service recorded the least with 2 trips.

Actual passenger from Iddo(Lagos) to Ilorin Train Service dropped from 3,620 in first quarter 2017 to 2,663 in second quarter of the same year. The report shows that actual passenger from Aba to Port Harcourt Train Service in second quarter 2017 was 42,547 as against 64,924 passengers in first quarter 2017. The rail transportation recorded 1,002 actual trip from Lagos Mass Transit Train from Iddo/Apapa to Ijoko in second quarter of 2017 from 1,049 in second quarter. Also actual trip from Kaduna (Rigasa) to Abuja (Idu) Train Service felled from 1,349 in first quarter 2017 to 414 trip in second quarter of the same year. However, actual luggage rack and parcel from Lagos Mass Transit Train from Iddo/Apapa to Ijoko remained unchanged at 102 in both quarters of 2017.
