Dangote Hails Tinubu’s Bold, Historic Economic Reforms
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing what he described as bold and visionary economic reforms, saying they have significantly reduced the strain on Nigeria’s public resources.
Speaking in a video shared on Facebook, the President of the Dangote Group commended the Tinubu administration for taking tough but necessary decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of the exchange rate, and the withdrawal of electricity subsidy for high-income consumers.
“President Tinubu is a visionary leader,” Dangote said. “These special reforms, even his own enemies will give him credit. Removing total subsidy, making it an open market for Nigerians to buy at market rate, and also doing the exchange rate on top of that, and removing subsidy for some of us in the high-class in terms of electricity consumption, because 240% increase was not a small margin.”
He noted that despite the steep price increases, the Nigerian public has largely absorbed the impact without widespread protests.
“All these have actually been absorbed by people without burning tyres, and this has actually reduced the drain on government resources,” he said. “These are things I never thought would happen in our lifetime, but here we are.”
