We Don’t Need New Taxes, We Need New Tax Payers – FIRS Boss
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman, Dr Zacch Adedeji, has reassured Nigerians that the proposed tax reform laws are not aimed at creating new taxes but increasing the number of eligible taxpayers.
He made this statement on Tuesday during the Second Edition of the Annual National Dialogue, organised by Nigeria Politics Online (NPO).
The theme of the event was “Revenue Generation, Infrastructure Progress: Options in a Challenged Economy.”

Dr. Adedeji was represented by the Director of Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Umar Idris Ahmed, who quoted him as saying:
“We don’t need new taxes; what we need is new taxpayers… We want to simplify tax payments with the hope of maximising revenue… We are committed to fair tax administration, responsive and accessible service to optimise revenue for national development.”
The FIRS boss also highlighted the importance of making tax payments convenient and accessible, stating that the administration is working hard to ensure that people can pay their taxes easily.
