National Workshop on Climate Change Implementation Held
The National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) hosted a one-day national consultative workshop to assess Nigeria’s progress in implementing its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) on climate change.
According to Spokesperson of NCCC, Ahmed Danbaza, the workshop, hm brought together stakeholders from the government, development partners, and civil society to review Nigeria’s climate commitments and identify areas for improvement.

In her opening remarks, NCCC Director General Dr Nkiruka Maduekwe highlighted the importance of capacity building and climate finance in achieving Nigeria’s NDCs. She acknowledged the support of development partners, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Climate Promise initiative.
The Minister of Youth Development, Dr Jamila Ibram Bio, announced a new policy requiring each corps member to plant 10 trees during their service year, aiming to plant 20 million trees by 2030.
Representatives from the British High Commission and the US Embassy also spoke at the event, emphasizing the importance of translating strong climate policies into concrete action and supporting Nigeria’s efforts to achieve its climate goals.
The workshop is part of Nigeria’s broader effort to review and enhance its climate commitments ahead of the upcoming COP29 conference.
