Among the 12 lunar months, Ramadan occupies a pride of place in the hearts of many adherents of the Islamic faith. It is one month that Muslims the world over, eagerly await, yearly.

Ramadan is a month full of blessings, when every worship and good deeds that you do will be multiplied by Allah. It is also a time to reflect and practice virtues of piety and self-restraint.

In the holy month, one is expected to show patience and display humility at all times. Muslims are expected to cleanse their mind by ridding it of negative or even satanic thoughts.

On a sad note, there are millions of Muslims who fast daily with zero or little resources to properly feed themselves, in order to undertake the month-long spiritual exercise.

That is why Muslims, especially those who are affluent, are highly advised to give food to the needy, in this sacred period.

Though Muslims are encouraged to give to the poor in their everyday life, giving charity is highly encouraged in Ramadan.

Again, fasting helps Muslims to cultivate the virtues of righteousness, and generosity towards every mankind.

In clear terms, fasting doesn’t apply to only food intake, Muslims are expected to abstain from anger, drinking alcohol, smoking, jealousy, complaining, cursing, fighting and other negative thoughts.

As for our religious clerics, they should not relent in suing peace and stability of the nation. They should also, tasked our political elites and leaders on selfless leadership, devoid of greed, ineptitude and mediocrity.

Lastly, Muslims in the country are expected to devote their time and energy on rewarding acts of worship and other productive activities. This is the time they have to earn their creator’s mercy in this world, while preparing for the Hearafter.
