
Senate Approves State Assembly, Judiciary, And LG Financial Autonomy
As part of the proposed amendments to the 1999 constitution, senate members voted on Tuesday to grant financial autonomy to the judiciary, state assemblies, and local governments.
There were 83 votes in favor of financial autonomy for state houses of assembly and the judiciary, with only one senator voting against it.
For the LG financial autonomy, 92 senators voted in favour of the proposed amendment, while two senators were against it.
In another development, the Red Chamber rejected a proposal to rename Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State to Gwul.
67 senators voted for the change, while 28 voted against it. The proposal failed to meet the two-thirds majority.
