Benue State Govt Remits Over N600m To Pencom
The Benue State Government has remitted over N600 million as pension fund to the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
Governor Samuel Ortom who stated this yesterday said the government could be allowed to borrow from the pension fund to settle unpaid retirees.
He expressed optimism that the challenges associated with pensions and gratuities in the state will soon be over due to efforts to clear accumulated debts.
“We have remitted over N600 million to PenCom and very soon we will be allowed to borrow from the pension fund to pay our retirees,” he said.
Ortom assured that in the next two years, retirees would no longer need to wait for their money as they will be paid immediately when they pull out from service.
The governor added that the existing and potential challenge posed by the growing pensions and gratuity bill, led his administration to adopt a multi-pronged approach to take the bull by the horns.
