FG Lacks Effective Road Map on PMS Deregulation- PEDAN Scribe, Dandakata
The National Secretary of the Petroleum Dealers’ Association of Nigeria (PEDAN), Mr. Ibrahim Shehu Yahaya, said there is no clear cut line of action on how the Federal Government (FG) intends to go about the deregulation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), in the country.
FG last Wednesday increased the pump price of petrol to N151.56 per litre, up from N148, the third increase in three months.
According to Shehu Yahaya, who is popularly known as Dandakata, the absence of an effective road map for petrol deregulation is ‘seriously’ affecting their members.
He said PEDAN members have been recording significant losses owing to the changes and fluctuation of oil prices, in recent times.
“So, we need to come together and pressure government to give us a clear cut road map or better still, line of action that will guide our activities,” he added.
Meanwhile, PRNigeria gathered that PEDAN members have overwhelmingly elected Comrade Hamlet Emenyi (President); Alh. Abubakar Hassan (Vice President); Chief Kate Boyo Esigie (Assistant Secretary); Edukuye Tony Ejiro (Financial Secretary); Okonkwo Obinna (Treasurer) and Victor Majekodunmi (Auditor), among others, as executive officials to pilot the affairs of the association in the next one year.
According to Dandakata, the change of baton will afford their new excos an opportunity to resuscitate PEDAN, which he said has been moribund for eight years.
He said: “Part of our mandate is reorganizing both the State and Zonal Chapters of PEDAN. We shall also revive the mutual collaboration PEDAN has with NUPENG and other allied bodies in the petroleum downstream sector. We will also be submitting ourselves to various regulatory agencies such as NNPC, and PPPRA, to mention a few.”
The PEDAN scribe, assured that their newly-inaugurated management team will bring stability into the downstream sector.
Dandakata, while disclosing that the policy guiding the downstream sector has not been amended in the last 40 years, said: “If you have an association that is united, you can actually confront the myriad of issues plaguing the sector, and tackle them head long.”
