DPR Seals Illegal Gas Plants, Outlets In Lagos

The Department of Petroleum Resources has sealed off seven illegal plants and three retail outlets refilling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) cylinders in Lagos.

The plants and outlets were shut on Tuesday for operating without licences from the DPR. Some were located in the wrong place such as under high-tension lines and in densely populated areas.

The affected facilities were Banner Gas LPG refilling plant in Lekki Phase I; Top Gas LPG, Jakande, Lekki; Dolax Gas, Ifako, Gbagada; Spades Energy Limited, Maryland; Daridson Gas Plant, Iroko Awe Town, Elegushi, Lekki Phase II; Pivot Cooking Gas Plant, Bariga, and Chibuzor Gas, Maryland.

The Zonal Operations Controller, Lagos, DPR, Mr Ayorinde Cardoso, who led a surveillance operation, said the agency had stepped up surveillance in a bid to stop illegal activities and curb gas explosions in the country.

Cardoso noted that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, had declared 2020 as the year of gas but added that all operators in this line of business must operate in line with the rules and regulations.
