FG Set To Inaugurate FIRS Board 8 Years After
Eight years after the dissolution of the board of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, the Federal Government will on Thursday inaugurate a new board for the service.
The inauguration of the board which is expected to be done by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, is coming about one month after the confirmation by the Senate of members of the board.
The Director of Information in the Ministry of Finance, Mr Hassan Dodo, confirmed the development in a text message sent to our correspondent.
The Senate had during its plenary confirmed the appointment of the reconstituted board members alongside the FIRS Chairman, Muhammad Nami.
The confirmation process followed the consideration and approval of the report of the Senate Committee on Finance presented at plenary by its Chairman, Senator Solomon Adeola
The FIRS board was dissolved in 2012 and all the executive chairmen that were appointed since then managed the agency without a board.
The 13 members of the FIRS board that were confirmed by the Senate are James Ayuba (North-Central), Ado Danjuma (North-West), Adam Mohammed (North-East); Ikeme Osakwe (South-East), Adewale Ogunyomade (South-West) and Ehile Aibangbee (South-South).
Other members of the board appointed from the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government are Ladidi Mohammed (Attorney General of the Federation Office) and Godwin Emefiele (Central Bank of Nigeria).
