
KEDCO engages Stakeholders, communities on safety measures.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities for 2019, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has engaged no fewer than 56 communities and 11 stakeholders from January to date in other to sensitise them on issues of electrical safety and other power sector related issues such as vandalism, power theft and illegal connection.
The management says KEDCO is engaging the communities to ensure the safety of its numerous customers across its franchise areas as well as promote good working relations between the company and host communities.
The management further said the issue of safety was paramount to KEDCO and efforts are being intensified in that regard owing to the fact that the dry season which often promote fire disaster was here and the need for everyone to be cautious to prevent issues that could cause KEDCO and its numerous customers some damages.
Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, the Managing Director/CEO of KEDCO said: “Our CSR activities have been targeted at enhancing safety for both customers and our equipment. Safety is key and everyone at any level must be concerned with his or her safety and that’s why we deemed it fit to look in that direction.
“ Also we have given information on the dangers of vandalism, power theft, illegal connection and meter by-pass for them to know the economic damage that we face and the need for them to assist us in reporting such cases as early as possible.
“The engagements have really helped us in relating well with our customers and stakeholders and today I can tell you that majority of the customers feel our heart beats when illegal acts are perpetrated and they are beginning to help report and give early warning signs because of our engagements.
“ During some of the engagements we were able to relate our challenges to our customers and stakeholders and we have seen responses and we will continue to engage them because vacuum in communication is bad for business and we won’t allow for any vacuum in this regard.”
I call on all our numerous customers to continue to live in peace in their respective communities and ensure that they avoid any activities that could jeopardise their safety about power.
Dr. Gwamna also urged the stakeholders to see the growth of KEDCO as a collective task to ensure uninterrupted power supply to Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States.
