Seme Customs Command Nabs 175 Bales Of Smuggled Textiles
The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service said on Tuesday that it seized 175 bales of textile materials worth N2.2m smuggled into Nigeria from Benin Republic.
The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Uba Mohammed, said another 71 cartons of expired food seasonings worth N458, 109 and 336 cartons of alcoholic drinks worth N5m were also intercepted along with the textile materials.
He said between March and May, the Command generated N2.8bn and also intercepted 14 trucks of foreign parboiled rice worth N89m.
He said, “The intensified operation of the enforcement unit has drastically reduced smuggling activities to the barest minimum.”
He listed other seizures within the period to include: N269, 911 worth of vegetable oil, N444, 785 worth of sugar, Premium Motor Spirit valued at N212, 100 and N458, 109 worth of expired food seasonings.
He said during the period under review, 336 cartons of alcoholic drinks worth N4.8m were intercepted along with 1,582 parcels of Cannabis Sativa concealed in an Indomie truck; and another 55 parcels concealed in a Sienna bus.
