Popular Farms and Mills Limited, a subsidiary of Stallion Group, said it recently inaugurated a multi-billion naira rice mill of 140,000 metric tonnes per year milling capacity and laid the foundation for 44,000MTs per year Sesame processing plant in Kano.
The Managing Director, Popular Farms, Mr Amit Rai, was quoted in a statement as saying that the Nigerian government under President Muhammadu Buhari, had been meticulous and inclusive in its approach to agriculture.
He also acknowledged the support of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh and his team of experts at the FMARD as well as the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
He commended the government at all levels for the positive initiatives and robust policies which supported agribusiness in Nigeria.
Rai said more than 80,000 farmers across paddy and Sesame supply chain were going to be positively affected by the rice mill expansion, adding that 1500 direct and indirect jobs would be created and Nigeria would save foreign exchange.
The initiative he added, will also further boost the Popular Farms’ initiative in empowering farmers in the rice and Sesame value chain to become better business people with strong technical and business knowledge and skills.
He said Popular Farms and Mills, was in direct contact with over 40,000 farmers and approximately 1000 rice cooperative societies across the country with its flagship training programmes for intensive farming at no additional cost to the farmers.
