KEDCO Seeks protection of customers’ interest through debt collection
Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) says it had embarked on the collection of debt to boost its financial base while protecting loyal customers, adding that large sum of money was being owed the company by some energy consumers.
Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, the Managing Director of KEDCO disclosed this in a chat with newsmen recently.
He said the essence of collecting the debt was necessary in order to reduce the risks of incurring losses or running into financial inefficiency, adding that some customers had cultivated the habits of missing payments or paying with their preferred percentages, which according to KEDCO Boss, is bad for business as it limits the capacity of the company to serve other loyal customers better.
“The essence of embarking on this debt collection is to help KEDCO improve its financial base while reducing the risks of incurring losses or running into financial inefficiency.
“KEDCO is business and any business such as those in the power distribution line, needs to be financially buoyant to grow and sustain all operational up-grade and strategies that will ensure adequate and improved power supply.
“This drive to collect monies owed to our company is aimed at protecting our numerous loyal customers that are punctual with their payments as we need the money recovered to be able to serve them better.
“Some of our customers particularly hotels, industries, companies and others who get our bills monthly have formed the habits of missing their payments or paying in preferred percentages say 50 per cent of their bills monthly which often accumulate into huge sums with time. We will no longer allow the debt to accumulate.
“We have started making contacts with them via emails, phone calls and text messages as well as letters. We want it that when bills are issued, the customers should pay in full to avoid debts that are running into millions of naira accumulatively,’’ he said.
The Kano DisCo boss appealed to customers who get bills to always pay up their bills in full, adding that it was from such payments that KEDCO buy the unit that they distribute to them.
He reaffirmed the unflinching commitment of KEDCO to live up to all expectations of energy consumers in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, noting that their customers remained the sole reason why they were in business.
