Lagos, Edo Top States With Highest Airfares In May – NBS
Lagos, Edo and Abuja are the top three destinations within Nigeria with the highest air fares paid by air passengers in May 2018.
The Transport Fare Watch report for May 2018 released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that states with the cheapest airfares in May were Katsina, Osun and Nasarawa.
The report covers the following categories: bus journey within the city per drop constant route; bus journey intercity, state route, charge per person; airfare charge for specified routes single journey; journey by motorcycle (Okada) per drop; and waterway passenger transport.
An analysis of the report showed that average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes, single journey, decreased by 0.40 per cent month-on-month and increased by 1.04 per cent year-on-year to N31,659 in May 2018 from N31,833 in April 2018.
The report showed that Lagos charged N40,500 averagely for single air travel, Edo charged N39,950 and Abuja charged N39,592.
States with lowest airfares were Katsina (N24,300), Osun (N24,950), and Nasarawa (N25,700).
Meanwhile, Abuja, Cross River and Abia were the top three states with the highest bus journey fares within city in May, 2018.
The report also revealed that states with the lowest bus journey fares within city were Bauchi, Anambra, and Rivers.
In May, the average fare for bus journey within the city increased by 0.53 per cent month-on-month and 32.71 per cent year-on-year to N166.85 from N165.94 in April 2018.
A Daily Trust analysis shows that average fare paid by commuters for bus journey intercity decreased by 0.05 per cent month-on-month and increased by 14.89 per cent year-on-year to N1,716 in May 2018 from N1,722 in April 2018.
States with the highest bus journey fares intercity were Abuja-FCT (N4,125), Adamawa (N3,166) and Borno (N2,744) while states with the lowest bus journey fare within the city were Bauchi (N1,064), Enugu (N1,096) and Yobe (N1,125).
Similarly, average fare paid by commuters for journey by motorcycle per drop decreased by 0.62 per cent month-on-month and increased by 7.87 per cent year-on-year to N105.55 in May 2018 from to N106.25 in April 2018.
The states with the highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop were Ondo (N185.59), Rivers (N173.53) and Enugu (N168.42) while states with the lowest motorcycle fares were Ekiti (N58.50), Niger (N57.14) and Katsina (N52.14).
