
FG Commissions Over N400m Erosion Control Project
The Federal Government has commissioned and handed-over three life-saving and life-touching projects worth over N400 million executed through the Ecological Fund Office, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for the benefit of three communities in Sokoto state.
The Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Prof. Stephen Ocheni who represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the event took time to visit the three sites, and appreciated the quality of job done by the contractor.
He also applauded the contractor for keeping to the time frame for the job. The laudable project of less than half a billion-sum titled Tambuwal-Dogondaji Erosion control works benefitted three communities namely Bashire, Jabo and Dogondaji communities respectively.
He maintained that the present administration was determined to providing infrastructure to every nook and cranny of this country irrespective of religious affiliation, tribe and culture. He as well thanked the present Governor of the state, His Excellency Aminu Tambuwal for keeping faith to the administration’s mantra in promoting peace and oneness in the country through the implementation of good policies.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Mrs. Habiba Lawal, ably represented by the Director, Drought Desertification & Coastal Zone Management, Mr. Ikpeme Osuabana, thanked the contractor and consultant of the projects for executing their jobs within the prescribed time limit. She however charged the communities to take ownership of the projects and ensure their maintenance and sustainability. The villagers who trooped out in their numbers with joy gave different testimonies of how the Federal Government has affected their lives through the projects.
Present at the event were: the Minister of State, Trade & Investment, Hajia Aisha Abubakar, the district heads of the communities, the chiefs, State Government officials and gentlemen of the Press. It would be recalled that before the commissioning day, the delegates from Abuja namely the Ecological Fund office team and the Hon. Minister of State’s entourage, paid the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alh. Aminu Tambuwal, a courtesy visit where he appreciated the efforts of the Federal Government in touching peoples’ lives through Ecological Fund Office projects.
