
Achievers University honours Emeritus Professor Ijalaye
Achievers University, Owo in Ondo State, South-West Nigeria, has awarded an honorary doctorate degree to Emeritus Professor David Adedapo Ijalaye, a legal luminary and the first Emeritus Professor of Law in Nigeria.
Ijalaye who hails from Owo was awarded a Doctor of Law, Honoris Causa during the school’s seventh convocation ceremony recently. The University’s Pro Chancellor, Dr. Bode Ayorinde, described the award as the special and best of the awards you have received”.
Ijalaye, who is also the co-chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of Achievers University, started lecturing at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in 1964. Before his retirement in 1998, he held several positions including Dean, Faculty of Law; Chairman, Committee of Deans to be so appointed by OAU and also served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Postgraduate Studies of the school.

The Awardee at 89 still supervises post graduate candidates and he supervised thesis of three out of the four recipients of doctorate degree in Law at OAU in 2016. The Emeritus Professor is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (FNIALS) and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of International Law (FNSIL).
While extoling the virtues of the legal luminary, the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu described him as his father and lecturer during his undergraduate studies at OAU. He commended the Achievers University for finding the academic par excellence worthy of the honour adding that they have done Ondo State proud.
