“Many of you are here because this was the University of your First Choice. You set your plans, achieved the requirements for entry and made it-Congratulations and well done! But for some of you, the journey was not as simple as that”.
“For some it was your second choice; maybe even a second chance, having started something else sometime back but now deciding to have another go”.
“Whatever your background, wherever you come from, however uncertain you might have been in the past, that’s all behind you now. Our task is to help you to build your future, and to work with you to provide the opportunities for you to succeed”.

The University was among the new Universities established in 2011 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide more access to Tertiary Education in the country. The vision of the University is to be a first-class institution committed to impacting knowledge and extending its frontiers.
He however noted that the university will continue to provide conducive environment for academic activities. We will be commissioning several new projects within the academic session.
“Additional facilities such as 5 new faculty buildings equipped with laboratories, lecture halls, studios, and staff offices will be ready for use very soon”.
“A well-equipped library and state-of-the-art ICT center will be commissioned within the next few weeks. We have constructed a central laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment”, he said.
He stressed that the University Management is aware of the acute hostel accommodation problems on campus and efforts are being made to address the issue especially when our hostels that are under construction are completed within the next few months.
“The hostels will be equipped with beds and mattresses, reading tables and chairs, wardrobes and lockers, reading rooms kitchenettes, laundry as well as furnished common rooms in addition to having adequate water supply and 2Nos 250Kva generators”, he said.
He added that all common rooms in the hostels will be renovated and equipped to serve as relaxation centers. Some sporting facilities will be provided in the various hall and all these will go a long way in enhancing the quality of lives of our dear students. The University has approached many private developers that will help in building some hostels which will be under private management.
“The water storage facilities and reticulations that will boost the supply are under construction. The supply is expected to improve with the provision of additional sources (now have the following sources of water; municipal, University boreholes and reservoirs)”, he emphasized.
“A water tanker has also been provided to supplement the water supply to hostels especially during periods of high water demand by students. We are making Resources for provision of a dam in the University (this will be used for recreation, fishing and irrigation farming)”.
“Our health Centre has accreditation as a primary health facility with a pharmacy and laboratory services. Staff and students are enjoined to register with our clinic as their primary care provider”
“The University Management is also concerned with the way students appear in public without adhering to the Federal University Wukari Dress Code”.
He observed that “For the purposes of clarity, a decent dress must be opaque (not transparent), should be loose (not tight) and cover from the neck down below the knee and should also have sleeves”.
He posited that students that are not decently dressed will not be allowed into classrooms, lecture theatres, laboratories, libraries, cyber café and offices of the University, adding that repeated offenders shall be disciplined for misconduct (which could lead to suspension from the University and appearing before the Students Disciplinary Committee).
