

Pursuant to his sustained resolve to actualize the dividends of democracy in his constituency, the House of representative member representing Ikwuano –Umuahia Federal Constituency, Chief Sam Onuigbo has attracted the Federal Government support for the award of a contract of over four hundred million naira for the control of the Amachara Erosion gully in Umuopara, Umuahia South Local Government Area.
Speaking during the handover of the site to the contractor, Chief Onuigbo said the project was part of the projects he attracted for his constituents, aimed at saving them from being cut off from their kits and kins.
While commending the Federal Government for the gesture and the Ecological fund Office for fast-tracking the process, the House member called on the contractor to execute the project according to specification and complete it in record time.
In her presentation, the Head of the Ecological Fund Office in the Presidency, Dr. Mrs. Habiba Lawal represented by Mrs. Ugonwanyi Ekugo, noted that the Amachara Erosion site is one out of twenty-five of such projects recently approved for execution by the Office and stressed the need for cooperation between the contractor and the host community to realize the project in record time in line with the desire of the Federal Government.
Responding, the contractor handling the project Engr. Mustapha Ibrahim and the Consultant Engr. Gbenga Ajayi assured of justifying the confidence the Federal Government has in them by executing the project in accordance with the agreed terms and in record time.
Also speaking, the Chairman, Umuahia South Local Government Area, Mr. Obioma Eze Ogbulafor represented by his Deputy Mr. Chris Nwosu, commended the Federal Government for its intervention adding on completion, the project will no doubt, provide a more livable condition for Umuopara people.
Similarly, Eze Akpunku Ihuwa, Elder Uzoma Onyekwere and Chief Sunday Andrew were also excited by the project and expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the member for Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency for attracting the project to their area. They further pledged to play their part in ensuring its timely realization.
In a related development, the Federal Government has been commended for the swift response to address some of the challenges of the people of Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency.
The member representing Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency Chief Sam Onuigbo made the commendation while flagging off the flood and erosion control project along Okwe-Obuohia Obi-Ibere road in Ikwuano Local Government Area. He added that the gesture has shown the importance the Government attaches to the lives of those being threatened by the gully, disclosing that project will gulp over 300 million naira.
Chief Onuigbo appreciated the Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Permanent Secretary Ecological Fund Office Dr. Mrs. Habiba Lawal for heeding to the cries of his people stressing that they are over thirty-five active erosion gullies within the Ikwuano-Umuahia Federal Constituency that are yearning for urgent attention.
He assured his constituents of sustained quality representation while collaborating with the State Government, the Senator for Abia Central Chief Theodore Orji and other representatives and stakeholders of the area to attract more democratic dividends.
In their speeches, the contractor handling the Okwe-Obuohia Obi-Ibere road erosion and flood control represented by the site Manager Engr. Sadiq Kehinde and the Consultant Engr. Emmanuel Emeka gave assurance of executing a good job and deliver on schedule. They also appealed for the support and cooperation of the people of the area.
Responding, the Vice President General, Okwe-Ukwu Development Union Chief Peter Ndubuwa, the Traditional Prime Minister Okwe-Ukwu Autonomous Community, Chief Chimezie Awazie, Mrs. Ezinne Ukauwa, Godwin Ukauzo, Chief Ernest Nwakanma from Obuohia Obi-Ibere and Okechukwu Dick described the road as major link out of their communities and commended Chief Onuigbo for quality representation which culminated to the Federal Government’s intervention in the area. They also pledged to contribute to its timely realization.
