The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued notice to the 11 Distribution Companies (DisCos), giving them till February 28, 2017 to deploy meters to all their Large Power Users (LPU).
Defaulters, it said will come under its sanctions from March 1st.
The Commission, in June 2016 after consultation with the operators, directed the DisCos to conclude metering of all such users called Maximum Demand (MD) customers by November 30, 2016.
Daily Trust observed that some of the DisCos did not fully comply with the directive as at the end of 2016.
However, NERC said the three month moratorium it granted them will end on February 28 to enable the Discos effectively give meters to the outstanding MD customers.
“Sequel to the above directives and approach of the expiration date of the moratorium period, it is hereby put on notice that the Commission shall commence regulatory action against any defaulting DisCo(s), beginning March 1, 2017,” NERC announced.
It urged any electricity customer on MD category that is yet to be metered as at February 28, 2017 to report to the Commission through its 19 forum offices across the country.
Residential customers who had paid for the Credited Advance Payment for Metering Initiatives (CAPMI) meter deployment but have yet to get one should also report to the Commission, NERC said.
