
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor, Operations, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has charged members of the Nigeria Electronic Fraud Forum (NeFF) to work harder to confront the potential fraud associated with electronic payments.
Adelabu spoke during the end of year get-together organised by the forum in Lagos.
He said new payment platforms have been introduced which had changed the financial landscape forever, adding that this has, however come with its challenges.
Represented by his Special Assistant, Mr. Taiwo Oladimeji, the CBN deputy governor stressed that the new innovations made the need for strong security measures clearly significant.
“Hence, let me congratulate all members of the forum, for the pivotal role they have played in making NeFF the success story we know it for today. I implore you to, however work harder, especially as technology yet again has taken us to the dark waters of block chain technology, where players must learn to either swim or sink, in the novelty of the tide.”
Chairman of the forum, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, said security remained a major challenge in combating electronic payment fraud.
He added that NeFF had commenced plans to organise a workshop in 2017 that would highlight the challenges inherent in the Cyber-Crime Prohibition Act 2015
He said the forum would begin a robust awareness campaign beginning from 2017 to educate members of the public and staff of organisations operating within the payment systems.
