The Efficiency Unit in the Federal Ministry of Finance has concluded arrangements for a series of workshops on Cost Management for officers of Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and their counterparts in the 36 States of the Federation.
The workshops are part of the continuing efforts by the Unit to achieve best value in public expenditure.
The Workshops are equally a continuation of the Unit’s cost-cutting drive on Overhead Expenditure, and have been structured to sharpen the skills of public sector officials in cost management.
While the Efficiency Unit has introduced controls, limits, standards and transparency in spending on Overhead Expenditure items, it is equally important to ensure that the public officials directly and indirectly responsible for incurring costs were equipped for a more prudent application of government’s resources.
In order to achieve this objective, the Workshops would cover the theoretical aspects of Cost Management and cite practical examples from other countries and the private sector.
Presenters of papers at the workshop are renowned experts in cost management practice and were carefully selected to speak on their various fields of expertise and experience in Cost Management to participants.
Three Workshops have been scheduled to achieve wide coverage across the country, with participants drawn from both Federal and State public services.
The first of the three Workshops planned is for Federal Permanent Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Federal MDAs. It will hold on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at the Auditorium of the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Participants are also expected from the State House, the National Assembly, the Judiciary and the Military.
To underscore the importance of the Workshops, the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, FCA, would both speak at the first Workshop.
Participants are expected to apply the knowledge gained from the Workshops to the management of public funds under their control in a transparent manner, bring best value for money and eliminate wastes.
