
The Federal Government is ready to implement the 2016 budget as it started injecting of the N350bn earmarked for capital projects as contained in the budget today.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udo Udoma. made this known while presenting the overview of the 2016 budget and its strategic implementation plan to the public at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa
The money, according to Udoma would be released by the Federal Ministry of Finance to the appropriate quarters. Recall that the Federal Government had identified 34 special projects for implementation.
His word’s, “We are ready to kick-start the implementation of the budget and by tomorrow (Friday), some releases will be made for capital projects that are ready for execution.”
On the budget breakdown, the Ministry of Interior emerged the most capitalized agency in the country with a whooping sum of N513.65 billion allocated to it in the N6.06 trillion 2016 budget..
The ministry is closely followed by ministry of Power, Works and Housing which got N456.93 billion and Defence with N443.07 billion.
Special Intervention Programmes was allocated N500 billion while the ministry of Education got N403.16 billion.
Health ministry got the sum of N250.06 budget just as Transport ministry will spend N202.34 billion in the 2016 fiscal year.
Other ministries with outstanding allocations include Agriculture and rural development, N75.8 billion; Youths and Sports development, NN75.8 billion; Water Resources N53.3 billion and Solid Minerals N16.73 billion.
In the housing projects, the government plans to build 1,973 blocks of 7,068 housing units across the country before the end of the year.
The synopsis of the action plan of the government on the budget was predicated on policy, governance and security, diversification of the economy, infrastructure including power,rails, roads and housing projects.
Other areas include oil and gas reforms, ease if doing business in Nigeria and social investments.
