The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kano state has disbursed N1.5 million loan to 10 unemployed persons under its commercial Farmers Training Programme.The NDE State Coordinator, Malam Aliyu Bichi disclosed this during the disbursement of the loan to graduates of the National Open Apprenticeship Scheme in Kano on Friday.
Aliyu said the loan was disbursed in line with the present administration’s effort to boost agricultural production in the country.
“This is in addition to many others attached to master trainers across the state under the various vocational trades,’’ he said.
According to him, the beneficiaries of the scheme, who had undergone various vocational training, would be empowered with necessary tools and equipment.
This, he said, would enable them to establish viable micro-enterprises for wealth creation and economic growth in line with government’s job creation drive for sustainable employment generation among youths.
“It may also interest you to know that apart from vocational skills, these beneficiaries have also been taught marketing and other skills necessary for smooth business take-off.
Also speaking, the acting Director General of the directorate, Mr Kunle Obayan, said 430 persons who received training in various skills were currently being empowered in 18 states including Kano.
“I want to assure you that the plan to create mass employment opportunities for unemployed Nigerians by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government has just started,’’ he said.
One of the beneficiaries, who received training on catering, Miss Bahijja Lawan thanked NDE for giving them the working tools, saying that it would go a long way in improving their socio-economic status.
She told reporters that the loan will also give them the opportunity to set up their own businesses, be self-employed and employers of labour. Out of a total number of 430 beneficiaries, 18 are from Kano state
