The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, said that the federal government is aware of hardship being faced by Nigerians and that they would be addressed.
Osinbajo stated this in Kano, while responding to complaints by members of the Sabon-Gari community.
The vice president was in the state to commission and lay foundation of some multi-billion naira projects.
He was accompanied by the Interior Minister, Abdulraham Bello Danbazau and Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on House of Representatives Matters, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Kawu Sumaila.
“The federal government knows all the problems affecting Nigerians and it will soon solve them. We have identified the problems and we will address them one after the other,” Osinbajo said.
He said the federal government cannot abandon Kano, as according to him the state is very important to the country.
Earlier, residents of Sabon-Gari, who trooped out to welcome the vice president, called on the federal government to address the fuel scarcity and power outage in the country.
The residents, who lined up along Court Road, chanted; “we need fuel and we need electricity. We are suffering.”
At the Sabon-Gari market, the vice president pledged support to victims of the recent market fire incident.
Osinbajo, who addressed the victims expressed shock over the level of destruction, urging the Kano State government to upgrade the market.
He said: “The market should be redesigned in line with modern setting. The electrification and water systems should improved upon. Fire fighting equipment should also be provided to the market so as to prevent this kind of incident in the future.”
On his part, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, said his administration has taken measures to assist the victims.
He said a committee headed by Alhaji Aliko Dangote was set up by the government to raise funds for the victims.
Governor Ganduje said the committee was mandated to mobilise funds from the federal, 36 states of the federation and private organizations within and outside the country.
He noted that prior to the inauguration of the Dangote-led committee, another committee under the chairman of traders union, Alhaji Alin Bagadaza, was set up to advice the government on how the affected traders can be resettled.
He said based on the committee’s recommendations, government rented 7,000 shops for the affected traders at the cost of N70 million.
