Next of Kins (NOKs) of deceased pensioners would soon have cause to smile as the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has assured them of the payment of 33 per cent pension arrears and the payment of benefits in no distant future.

The assurance is contained in a statement issued by the Head of Corporate Communications of PTAD, Theodora Amechi, made available to Economic Confidential in Abuja .

The statement quoted Amechi as saying the assurance came during a meeting between the management of PTAD and representatives of the National Union of Pensioners (NUP), the National Association of Retired Paramilitary Officers (NARPO), the Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (ARPON) and the Association of Public Service Retirees.
Amechi said that details of the payment of the 33 per cent arrears would be agreed upon with the various pension groups before payment.

He reassured the unions’ representatives that the Federal Government recognised its obligation to pensioners and apologised for the delay pensioners experienced in the course of resolving the issue.

He added that PTAD was working hard to resolve all complaints and other issues affecting pensioners, noting that “our doors are always open for the resolution of complaints and communication with pensioners and other stakeholders.”
