… ABU Class Of 84 Honours AGF
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), would continue to uphold the tenets of transparency, probity and accountability in the course of discharging its duties on public finance and nation’s treasury.
The Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris gave the assurance at a reception organized by class of 84 Faculty of Administration graduates of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, at Ceremony in Abuja to honour him as the Accountant General of the Federation.
He described as huge the task of managing the Nation’s Treasury, saying it is burden of trust from God, the President and Nigerians. He therefore asked for the support and prayers of the Nigerians to enable him succeed.
He also called on Nigerians especially those in the Finance sector of the Economy to key into the present administrations fight against corruption in Nigeria and supports the campaign for the diversification of the economy to mono-product.
He said “I urge everyone Nigerian to become an agent of change as most problems can be solved at the micro levels, at the level of the families, places of worship, offices and other individual endeavours as we stand up for what is right.”
He reiterated his commitment to ensure openness, inclusiveness, accountability and respect for the rules and tenets of public service in all financial transaction as the Accountant General of the Federation.
He expressed his willingness to accept ideas and suggestions that would enhance proper management of the Nation’s Treasury.
In a welcome address Alhaji Idris Saidu who spoke on behalf of the 84 set Classmates, commended the Accountant General on his performance so far which he said had led to reforms in public financial management, especially the introduction and implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
Alhaji Saidu who is the Director of Finance and Account of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), noted that despite negative pressures from some quarters, the TSA has improved efficiency in revenue generation by promoting transparency and accountability in governance. He also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for Ahmed Idris as the Accountant General of the Federation. Alhaji Saidu, assured the Accountant General of the continued support and prayers of the body to ensure that he succeeds in his assignment.
Also in her remarks, Alhaja Ladi Ibrahim, the first female President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigerian (ANAN) and a member of the ABU 84 class urged the Accountant General of the Federation to enforce discipline in the management of public finances in the country.
She also asked him to report erring Accountants to the disciplinary committees of the two professional Accounting bodies in the country.
