The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has awarded a licence to Trombay Power Generation Limited to operate a 500 megawatts coal-fired power plant at Wajari Village along Dadinkowa Road, Yamaltu Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, in a statement,  commended the company’s Group President, Jitendes Sachdeva for the painstaking process he was subjected to in the course of the application for the coal-fired power plant.

“I commend your patience and perseverance to follow through your application. Coal power plant is becoming important in our effort to diversify our fuel source,” he said.

“I hope you will follow through your timelines in constructing your power plant with the same dedication you displayed in the course of this application.”

The Commissioner, Legal Licensing and Enforcement, Dr Steven Andzenge, in his remarks, noted that “This is a milestone in the sense that it is in line with NERC’s objective of diversifying Nigeria’s fuel source.”

The Group President of Trombay Power, Sachdeva, described the exercise as most welcoming, saying, “I am glad to receive this licence. The commission is a truly transparent regulatory agency.”
