Managing Director, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Alh. Umaru Ibrahim says the Corporation would collaborate with civil society groups in championing its public awareness, financial literacy, financial inclusion, consumer protection and sustainable banking campaigns.
Ibrahim made the promise while receiving the 2014 Certificate of Commendation Award from the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Nigeria (CCSON) in his office recently.
He promised to foster closer working relationship with civil society organisations which he described as the mouth piece of the poor and unsophisticated depositors that the Corporation was established to protect,
The NDIC boss said the corporation would organise a special workshop every other year for the civil society organisations in order to sensitize them on NDIC’s mandate and activities.
Umaru Ibrahim expressed his gratitude to the CCSON for noticing and appreciating the humble contributions of the NDIC to the safety, soundness and stability of the nation’s financial system, pointing out that the award would motivate Corporation to work harder toward realising its core values of honesty, respect & fairness, discipline, professionalism & team work and passion.
He paid glowing tribute to the Corporation’s founding fathers and described its current landmark achievements as an “offshoot” of their solid foundation declared that what Nigeria needed were not individuals but strong institutions that would leave legacies of a highly committed and professional workforce.
Speaking earlier, President of the association, Comrade Bassey Williams Etuk said the organisation’s prestigious award was conferred on the NDIC boss in recognition of the enviable and purposeful leadership which he had brought to bear in the management of the Corporation.
“Part of our observations which informed this award were transparency, professionalism, proactive decisions, teamwork and above all, the effective delivery of the NDIC mandates which our organisation had noticed. This seems to be uncommon in our nation today, and as such, we have chosen to celebrate it to serve as a model to others, realising that Nigeria is blessed with virtually everything but leadership”.
In her closing remarks, NDIC’s Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. (Mrs) Lola Abiola-Edewor commended the civil society organisations for the award which she said was in recognition of the Corporation’s purposeful leadership and committed workforce.
