The Honourable Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu CON, has revealed that the main policy trust of the present administration is to create jobs and ensure industrial harmony with the practice of social dialogue, as enshrined in the International Labour Organisation (ILO) standard.
The Minister stated this in his office today, while receiving in audience the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Gustavo Dzugala.
According to the Minister “The Transformation Agenda of the administration of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, has job creation as its main policy trust with focus on mass employment. This initiative is traceable to the policy of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, called National Action Plan on Employment Creation.
The Minister further stated that the Community Services Women and Youths Employment Project of SURE-P domicile in the Ministry, has also generated 3000 jobs in each of the 36 states of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, with a target of creating 5000 jobs in each state of the Federation per year.
Chief Wogu assured the ambassador of his Ministry’s readiness to work with him to strengthen bilateral relationship between Argentine Republic and Nigeria, especially in forming a common front to combat the menace of unemployment.
Earlier in his remarks the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Gustavo Dzugala, stated that the purpose of the visit was to propose project cooperation and to exploit the Ministry’s policies that have succeeded in addressing the challenges of unemployment in Nigeria. He congratulated the Labour Minister on his efforts at job creation and maintenance of industrial harmony in Nigeria.
In his words “We are here to improve our relationship with the Ministry and propose some cooperation project in relation to mass job creation, we want to explore the experiences of your policies that have succeeded in this field and we hope to exchange experiences and policies”.
