NEMA Offers Automatic Scholarship for Corps Member on DRR

abubakar-jimohThe Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Muhammad Sani-Sidi has offered a scholarship award to a youth corps member, Abubakar Jimoh who was recognized for advocacy campaign on disaster management in Nigeria during the service year.

Muhammad Sani-Sidi who made the presentation of the cash prize at the end of a Quiz Competition among Secondary Schools in Abuja organized by the corps member said that he was impressed by the volumes of contributions by the corper who distinguished himself in several advocacy campaigns including over 25 feature articles in the media, publication of a booklet on Ten Major Disasters which was translated into major Nigerian languages.

The NEMA boss said: “I am overwhelmed and impressed by the contributions of youth corps members on national development and particularly encouraged by the contributions of Abu Jimoh through his writings and advocacies, that I find it necessary to offer him a cash donation to pursue a postgraduate programmes in Disaster Management in any of the 6 universities that offered the course in the country.”
While reiterating the commitment of NEMA in strengthen its collaboration with stakeholders including response agencies and NYSC on disaster management and awareness campaigns, he called on youths to avail themselves of the opportunity of serving in volunteer groups and clubs set up on Disaster Risk Reduction in the country.

He said NEMA would soon institute annual awards of recognition to deserving individuals, groups, institution and media who have made significant contributions to disaster management in the country.
In her response at the quiz competition, the representative of NYSC Directorate at the occasion, Mrs Maksuda Momoh commended NEMA for sponsoring activities of Youth Vanguard Volunteer groups of NYSC throughout the federation and assistances to corper on their community development effort.
The winners at the Quiz competition are: Government Secondary School, Garki which came first followed by Government Day Secondary School, Tudun Wada and Reginal Pacis College Abuja.a
