The Gombe State government has procured 30,000 assorted fingerlings for distribution to farmers in the state to boost fish production. This is contained in the report of a committee set up to assess government’s performance in the agriculture sector in the last one year presented to Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo on Thursday in Gombe.
Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Alhassan Fawu, said work had started on the hatchery, laboratory, incubation room, store and office of the Dadin Kowa Fish Hatchery Complex abandoned for over 15 years.He said that the government had similarly purchased 62.2 tonnes of quality maize seeds for sale to farmers in the state.
He said that to boost livestock production, N14.3 million had been released for the identification and retracing of stock routes in the state. According to him, government has also released N40 million for the rehabilitation of Balanga Dam to boost agricultural production. Fawu, however, advised the state government to liaise with the Federal Government to ensure the completion of the Abattoir in Gombe.
