AGF Tasks Institute of Taxation on Prompt Collection of Taxes

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla, has tasked the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to be proactive about tax collection, stating that it is the necessary aspect of generating revenue.
He said this when the Institute members paid him a visit in his office in Abuja.
The AGF said tax contributes significantly in the economy of the nation and should be accorded the necessary support, adding that it is only in Nigeria that people are nonchalance on paying their taxes. He however assured the Institute of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation’s (OAGF) corporation and support especially advisory.

Mr. John Femi S. Jegede, the President of the Institute during the presentation of his speech congratulated the AGF on his recent appointment, pointing out that his success came as a result of outstanding and commendable achievements which he attained through hard work, dynamism, charismatic management and strict adherence to professional ethics and culture.

The CITN’ s president, solicited the AGF’s support in ensuring that most of their lofty goals as demanded by the contents of their charter are achieved, adding that it could come in form of encouraging OAGF staff to attend the Institute’s activities, workshops and seminars.

Meanwhile in another development, the Accountant-General of the Federation, has promised the managers of Sterling and ECO Banks of his cooperation and partnership in their efforts to build great and strong banks for the benefit of the society.

The AGF said this when the banks executives paid him courtesy visits in his office recently in Abuja. While expressing his delight with the visit of the Bank’s executives, he promised them whatever little assistance the office will give. He also thanked them for managing the global economic downturn and it attendant crisis and further encouraged them to be diligent, committed and to stay strong and focused even in the midst of challenges.

The Group Managing Director of Sterling Bank, Mr. Yemi Adeola, congratulated the AGF on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure in office. He also told the AGF that the bank had successfully acquired Equatorial Trust Bank (ETB), he added that their mission was to solicit partnership with the OAGF having considered the importance and necessity of doing so.

In the same vein, the Director General of Ecobank, Mr. Jibrin Aku, also thanked the AGF, and wished him a happy and successful stay in office, pointing out that Ecobank had come to pay homage to the office that had housed them for many years.

Mr. Aku reiterated that, like most other banks Ecobank had some challenges that had already been overcome.
