The new commissioners include Mohammed Lamin, Transport and Energy; Kaigama Umar, Finance; Alhaji Goni Fika, Information; Asmaú Kabir Kolo, Women Affairs; Idi Barde Gubana, Agriculture; Mohammed Ago, Housing; Mohammed Jauro Gwiokura, Religious Affairs; Musa Maina Dumburi, Integrated Rural Development; Alhaji Bukar Dauda, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; Lawan Shettima Ali, Works; Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa, Water Resources; and Fatimah Talba, Health.
Others are Aji Yerima Bularafa, Youths; Dodo Kakawo Karage, Budget and Economic Planning; Ahmed Mustapah Goniri, Justice; Idrissa Bukar Machina, Special Duties; Bala Haladu, Land and Survey; Muhammad Dakasku, Animals and Fisheries; Yusuf Yahaya, Sports; Alhaji Mala Musty, Education; and Wakil Sarki Ahmed, Environment.
At the swearing-in event in Damaturu, Governor Gaidam also warned the new cabinet members against corruption.
He also threatened to partner Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and State Security Service (SSS) in saving the state from shackles of corruption and economic crimes. His words: “This has become necessary to avoid situation where funds are expended and resources wasted without leaving any meaningful lasting impact on the lives of people or the developmental landscape.
“In appreciation of the goodwill, trust and confidence reposed in us by the good people of Yobe State as demonstrated by the landslide victory recorded by our great party in the state, I hereby pledge to continue with even greater vigour, the good work we started way back in May 2007. It has become imperative for us to adopt a new policy approach of setting out priorities and providing focus to government programmes so that the available scarce resources can be deployed in ways that will make the greatest impact of the most critical areas felt needs.”
According to him, in keeping with the new policy thrust, the civil service is being re-positioned for more effective and efficient service delivery through the capacity building, institutional reforms and inculcation of discipline “as well as enhancement of welfare.” Gaidam also reminded the new cabinet of the task ahead, advising, “Accountability should be your watch word. Commissioner shall be solely responsible for any lapses on expenditure; there should be no money spent without work of equivalent value on ground. You should personally supervise ongoing projects and be in position to give full account of the level of execution of projects at any given time, set good example.”
