The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe has re-emphasized the commitment of his ministry to closely monitor all the projects it is executing across the states of the Niger Delta region in line with Federal government’s new thinking to positively affect all sections of the  country to ensure national harmony and growth.Orubebe made the statement at the start of his official inspection tour of Skills Acquisition, and other project sites in Edo, Bayelsa, Delta,Rivers, Abia and Imo States.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the contractor at the Iguelaba site and revoked the contract. It was the same story at the Tuomo Skills acquisition centre, Delta State where he sanctioned the contractor for poor performance, according to him, the Federal Government would no longer tolerate incompetence and non-adherence to contractual agreements. However Orubebe was impressed with the performance of the contractor at the Skills acquisition project at Odi, Bayelsa State, and expressed confidence that the contractor would meet the deadline in 3 months.

At the Skills acquisition centre, Owazza, Abia State, the minister represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mallam Atiku Abubakar Kigo, fwc, gave the contractor one month to improve his performance or risk having the contract terminated.

The contractor handling the Housing Scheme also at Owozza informed the minister about the incessant acts of intimidation, harassment and even out right kidnapping of their Engineer by some elements in the community. The minister deplored this trend, while on a courtesy call on the paramount ruler, Eze Young Ogbonna requested him to ensure close cooperation and collaboration between   his community and the contractors to provide the conducive environment for the projects to be executed. This was imperative,he added, because,  it was a privilege for  any community  to play host to these priority projects that government was committing enormous resources to build  in order to give a new lease of life to the people. According to him, any community that obstructs the realization of these objectives by preventing contractors from executing lawfully awarded contracts would lose the privilege to other communities that are willing to play host to these projects.
