PRESS STATEMENT
RMAFC debunks allegations of sponsorship of retreat

1.       The attention of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission has been drawn to a recent publication in some dailies including: the Daily Trust and the Punch of 31st January, 2011 in which it was alleged that the Commission had entered into a sponsorship deal with the Akwa Ibom State Government to bankroll a retreat for its Members.

2.       The Commission wishes to state categorically that these allegations are unfounded, baseless and false. The Commission is to provide the logistics for the retreat.  Furthermore, the Commission had previously held retreats in Kano, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Bauchi and Niger States at various times and that of Akwa Ibom State cannot be an exception. In the circumstance, the allegations should be totally disregarded by the general public.

3.       It is noteworthy to point out that the decision to hold the retreat at Uyo, Akwa Ibom State was unanimously taken at the Commission’s 50th Plenary Session held on the 18th January, 2011.  The fact that the retreat is to be held in a particular State cannot make the Commission to compromise its integrity and fairness in dealing with all stakeholders. It should be stressed that the Commission is made up of members from all the 36 States and the FCT who are men of unquestionable integrity.

4.       We assure the public that the Commission shall remain focused and continue in its tradition of ensuring equity, justice and fairness to all stakeholders in the discharge of its responsibilities.
