Governor Shekarau presents N109b Budget for 2011

Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State has presented a budget proposal of N109.5billion for 2011 before the state Assembly which he tagged a ‘Budget of Continuity.’ He said the 2011 budget is intended to serve as a base for the incoming administration to pursue development objectives based on a long term plan.

 

He stated that while he succeeded in tackling the most important challenges that confronted his nearly 8 year’s administration, he said such successes would not have been possible without the cooperation and support of the people.

“Whatever has a beginning certainly must have an end, my last annual budget proposal to my dear State is this but allow me to expressed my appreciation and the spirit of partnership with the teeming masses of the state in the past eight years,” he said

While giving the breakdown of the budget, Mallam Shekarau said that the proposed appropriation is made up of a recurrent component of over N50m and a capital provision of over N58, adding that the 2011 is expected to be funded from a projected total recurrent revenue receipt of N84b federal allocated revenue and internally Generated Revenue.

The sectoral breakdown of the appropriation bill shows that the education sector got N24.1 billion, Urban and rural Infrastructure got N23.9 billion, while Agriculture was allotted N11.2billion.
Health got N10.7 billion, Rural and Community Development N4.7billion, Water supply;N1.8billion and Environment protection;N2.billion.

Other sectors like  women and social development got N753 million, sports;N50million, Sharia; N1.7 billion and General administration got N23.5billion.
