The Niger State government has commissioned a 500 units of Houses valued at N1.9 billion named after a renowned retired soldier, General M. I. Wushishi on Tuesday 1st June, 2010.
The Governor of Niger State, Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu promised to ensure that these houses get to the proper people who needed them, not those who will get it and resell or rent them out, adding that as long as these houses are allocated to land-lords, the cost of rent will never go down.
The governor said the State Government has subsidized the cost of the houses, hence, the houses in the Gen. M. I. Wushishi Estate are selling for N1.9 million for a 2-bedroom houses and N2.9 million for a 3-bedroom houses respectively which about 250 beneficiaries have fully taken possession of their houses.
He added that the estate is fully equipped with school building, hospital and more chances for private schools and health centre, land spaces reserved for people who want to develop such.
Later on, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Lands and Housing in Niger State, Alhaji Hassan Lawal Abdullahi gave the overview of the housing project at hand and the ongoing plans with the Niger State Government.
In his address, he stated that foundation stone of the estate commissioned was laid in July, 2007. The estate which consists of 500 units of houses, has 100 unit of 3-bedroom semi detached and 400 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached houses.
He further disclosed that the estates under the first phase currently going on includes 500 units Talba Housing unit estate at Gidan Mangoro, Minna, 250 Aliyu Makama Housing units Estate in Bida, 250 Col. Sani Bello Housing units Estate in Kontagora, 500 Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Housing Estate, Suleja, and FMBN 90 units at Suleja.
During this commissioning among many dignitaries who spoke are the SSA to the President on Millennium Development Goal (MDG), Hajiya Amina Azzubair, who commissioned the health centre in the estate.
However, during the commissioning, Nduese said he has been informed that Niger State has set out plans of 10 hectares of land in each of their 25 Local Government Areas for housing project. In his will to encourage the good plan, he promised them that the Federal Government is ready to work with them to achieve their desired goal.
