Foreign Contractors take Nigeria for Granted – Minister

The Minister of Works, Senator Mohammed Sanusi Daggash has appealed to contractors handling road projects in the country to consciously avoid taking the government and people of Nigeria for granted.

He gave this admonition while inspecting the Jebba – Mokwa road being handled by Bulletine Construction Company Ltd, the company to which he expressed dismay at the slow pace of work on the road which was awarded over 4 years ago. According to him, he could not understand reasons such a project which should have been completed long before is still on-going with no apparent hope that it would be completed soon.

He observed that slow pace of work has come to be associated with all projects being handled by the company even though government has met all contractual obligations and thereby invited them to a meeting in his office on Thursday, June 24, 2010 to jointly examine the desirability or otherwise of continuing with the contract.

It would be recalled that the Minister expressed similar feelings during a visit to projects being handled by the company in Benue State. The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Engr. Chris Ogienwonyi was in the entourage which also visited projects in Niger and Kwara States respectively. A courtesy visit was also made to the Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Bukola Saraki.
