The Minister of State for Niger Delta affairs, Hon. Samuel Ode has lauded land owning communities in the Niger Delta region for their willingness to partner and cooperate fully with the ministry to enable it realize its vision of serving as the primary vehicle for the execution of government plans and programmes for the rapid socio-economic development of the region.
Ode made this assertion in his office, while interacting with Lawyers and Estate Valuers who have the powers of attorney to represent the interests of land owning communities, individuals and groups in the Niger Delta whose properties have been acquired by the ministry for its various development projects.
The minister said all the owners of the designated properties who had given approvals for the acquisition of their properties by the government would get compensations for physical structures and economic trees on the lands. He asked them to forward the account and other documentations of their clients to facilitate the payments; but he however, emphasized that the ministry will not pay for the lands themselves.
Therefore, according to him, the meeting was meant to enable the ministry interface with the Attorneys and smoothen out all grey areas to avoid any litigations arising from the transactions, while also emphasizing the need for them to present authentic documents.
In their submissions, the lawyers who represented separate interests, pledged to ensure that their clients fully adhered with all the terms of the agreements.
